What Is Waterfall Enrichment?
Waterfall enrichment is a data enrichment method that runs each contact record through a defined sequence of data sources until all required fields are populated. If the first source lacks a field (like a mobile number or LinkedIn URL), the next source is automatically tried — continuing down the “waterfall” until the field is filled or all sources are exhausted.
How waterfall enrichment works
- 1.A contact record enters the enrichment pipeline with some fields missing — typically email, phone, or firmographic data.
- 2.The system tries source 1 (e.g., Apollo). If the field is populated, it moves on. If not, it falls through to source 2.
- 3.Source 2 is tried (e.g., Clay’s waterfall network). If the field is found, the record is updated. If not, source 3.
- 4.This continues until all required fields are populated or the source list is exhausted.
- 5.The enriched record — now complete — is scored against your ICP and routed into sequences or CRM.
Why waterfall enrichment matters for outbound
Single-source enrichment produces fill rates of 40–60% on a typical B2B list. Waterfall enrichment regularly achieves 80–90% fill rates because no single data provider has complete coverage. The difference matters because incomplete records mean wasted outreach — you’re paying to contact people whose information is wrong or missing.
How Suprflo uses waterfall enrichment
Suprflo runs waterfall enrichment from 50+ data sources as the first stage of your GTM pipeline. Every contact is enriched, deduped, and scored 1–10 against your ICP before a single outreach step runs. Enrichment isn’t a side project or a CSV export — it’s the foundation of an engineered pipeline.
